TitleSOME REMARKS ON THE TOLERANCE AVERAGING OF HEAT CONDUCTION IN COMPOSITES WITH BIPERIODIC STRUCTURE
AutorMarta Mazewska, Ewaryst Wierzbicki
Pages3–17
Keywordsheat conduction, biperiodic conductors, tolerance averaging, boundary effect
AbstractShow abstract
This paper shows some attempt of analysis of temperature boundary effect in wall with bi-periodic material structure in which every surface parallel to outside and inside surface is bi-periodic surface. As the instrument of modeling there are used the tolerance model equations for periodic composite. The considerations are limited to walls made with material with hexagonal-type structure. There is also formulated and solved boundary problem for boundary effect in mentioned wall.

TitleFINITE ELEMENT OF MODERATELY THICK ARCH – STATICS AND FREE VIBRATIONS
AutorWojciech Gilewski, Marta Sitek
Pages19–36
Keywordsfinite element method, moderately thick arch
AbstractShow abstract
The present paper is dedicated to the finite element of moderately thick arch (Ar2Ph2). So-called “physical” shape functions, stiffness matrix, load vector and mass matrix are derived. The shape functions are based on the displacement differential equations of the arch. The finite element is exact for static analysis. Convergence analysis for free vibration is presented with promising results.

TitleFIRST NATURAL FREQUENCY OF COLUMNS IN FORM OF TUBES SHAPED LIKE A CONE
AutorJacek Jaworski
Pages37–50
Keywordssteel column, post, natural period, first natural frequency
AbstractShow abstract
Formulas for calculations of the first natural frequency of vibration for columns in a form of frustum of cone and tubes shaped like a cone are derived. Elastic material and continuous distribution of the column mass was assumed. Rayleigh’s method was used and the form of amplitude of cone axis during the vibration was supposed to be described by a trigonometric function. The application of derived formulas was presented using some examples and results obtained are compared with those given in other papers and calculated according to Polish standard PN-77/B-02011.

TitleAPPLICATION OF CYCLIC CBR TEST TO APPROXIMATION OF SUBGRADE DISPLACEMENT IN ROAD PAVEMENT
AutorAndrzej Głuchowski, Wojciech Sas
Pages51–61
Keywordssubgrade surface displacement, cyclic loading, CBR repeated test
AbstractShow abstract
The main aim of this paper was to approximate displacement of subgrade surface under cyclic loading. Soil specimens were loaded by force, which caused displacement to 2.54 mm. After that, specimens were loaded by the same force a number times. This procedure allowed to define the kind of displacement occurring under cyclic loading. An analysis of individual displacement was done on paper. Soil specimen was sandy clay and sandy clay stabilized by the addition of lime, the amount of which equals 8%. The additional aim was to prove that stabilization of cohesive soils with lime can marked increase stiffness of soil and to show various load-unload conditions of stabilized and non-stabilized sandy clay.

TitleDETERMINATION OF THE VERTICAL AND HORIZONTAL COEFFICIENT OF CONSOLIDATION IN SOFT ORGANIC SOILS
AutorBartłomiej Bursa, Piotr Chmielnicki, Wojciech Dziuba, Edyta Malinowska
Pages63–74
Keywordsvertical coefficient of consolidation (cv), horizontal coefficient of consolidation (ch), soft organic soil.
AbstractShow abstract
Determination of the vertical and horizontal coefficient of consolidation in soft organic soils is a significant completion of stress-strain characteristics. The organic soils are characterized by anisotropic structure. Large initial permeability, decreasing during the consolidation process, large compressibility and nonlinear strain and permeability characteristics can be a challenge for engineers building on soft subsoil. In the paper the method and methodology of determination coefficient of consolidation in Rowe cell is presented. Also, the mean rules of testing in Rowe cell are described.
