TitleLOCATION OF IKEA STORES IN THE PODLASIE PROVINCE (NE POLAND) WITH THE USE OF REILLY'S LAW OF THE DEMOGRAPHIC GRAVITATION
AutorMałgorzata Gerus-Gościewska
Pages5–14
Keywordslocalization in land management, Reilly's law of demographic gravitation
AbstractShow abstract
Exact sciences have become a source of inspiration for researchers and scientists representing other branches of knowledge. There is a trend towards integration of exact sciences, primarily physics, chemistry and mathematics, with other disciplines and fields of learning, including spatial economy and land management. In view of the above, Reilly's law of retail gravitation was adapted to the needs of land management in the present study. Reilly's model was used to determine the location of an IKEA store in the region of north-eastern Poland. The applied model relies on the results of a survey evaluating buying intensity in selected age groups of customers. The analyses performed in the study may provide a basis for establishing rules and principles supporting the process of solving practical problems related to land management.

TitleSPATIAL AND OWNERSHIP STRUCTURE OF FORESTS IN WIELKOPOLSKA VOIVODESHIP
AutorPiotr Gołojuch, Roman Jaszczak, Sandra Wajchman, Jakub Glura
Pages15–26
KeywordsKey words. Wielkopolska, forests, forest cover, ownership structure
AbstractShow abstract
The objective of the studies performed by a team of research workers employed at the University of Life Sciences in Poznań was to recognise forest variability in combination with the administrative division of our country. The goal of presented paper is to characterise spatial and ownership structure in communes and districts of Wielkopolska Voivodeship. Information obtained from the Local Data Bank of the Main Statistical Office (GUS) for year 2010 was used to conduct appropriate analyses. They were used to determine the forest area per one inhabitant as well as the basic statistical data. Furthermore, the above-mentioned information was also utilised to elaborate maps illustrating spatial distribution of basic characteristics. It was found that Wielkopolska Region the second largest Voivodeship in Poland occupied the third position with respect to forest resources in Poland. However, the significance of Wielkopolska forests with respect to the entire country is not the same in individual districts and communes of the Voivodeships. The total forest areas as well as the forest areas per capita, both at the level of communes and districts, are the highest in northern and western parts of Wielkopolska Voivodeship and very small in its southern regions. The performed analyses of ownership relations in Wielkopolska forests confirmed earlier investigations carried out by Polna (2003) and revealed a considerable domination of public ownership. Similarly as in the case of the entire country, in comparison with public ownership, commune forests play a negligible role, with the exception of towns with special district town charter. In Wielkopolska Voivodeship, private forests are found to occur on a much smaller scale in comparison with other parts of the country. It is evident from the analysis of spatial distribution that districts of the greatest importance of forest areas can be found, primarily, in eastern and southern parts of Wielkopolska.

TitleTHE IDENTIFICATION FUNCTIONS OF ROADSIDE VEGETATION
AutorKatarzyna Kocur-Bera, Małgorzata Dudzińska
Pages27–39
Keywordsroadside plantings, vegetation features
AbstractShow abstract
This paper provides the analysis of the impact of vegetation on water erosion, winter conditions, visibility of formation line, glare effect, inhibition of energy, wind strength, presence of animal habitats and creation of specific microclimate. Apart from typical ecological functions, they also impact the risk for people involved in the traffic flow. Depending on a type of distribution or the model of design, vegetation shields may reduce the speed of wind or, conversely, may intensify it and cause turbulence. The proper selection of plant features helps to influence the strength and location of side winds along a road, speed of wind, accumulation of dust, snow, ice and the location of cold, warm, wet and dry places. The attenuation of the microclimate, i.e. variations in air temperature, insolation and winds, is another factor that justifies and supports introducing vegetation along streets and roads. These influences have both a positive and negative impact on the safety of vehicle flow on roads. Rationally distributed, they may serve not only as decoration, but also effectively lessen the impact of weather conditions on the movement on roads.

TitleOLSZTYN BYPASSES FROM THE LEGAL PLANNING AND LAND-USE CHANGE PERSPECTIVES
AutorSławomir Sobotka
Pages47–58
Keywords suburban area, changes to the agricultural landscape, land-use transformation, city bypass
AbstractShow abstract
Abstract The paper describes land-use changes in Olsztyn suburban area, resulting from the planned construction of the southern bypass of the city. It also raises the issues concerning both the concept of the bypass routes and the revocation of the Environmental Permit for the north-eastern bypass of the city. In 2007, Environmental Impact Reports were drawn up for two Olsztyn bypasses. One of them is the northeastern bypass (with a length of 11.1 km) which, according to plan, was to run through Dywity commune and Barczewo urban-and-rural commune. The relevant Environmental Permit was repealed in 2012 by the Provincial Administrative Court in Warszawa, following a wave of protest. The other i.e. the southern bypass (with a length of 24.7 km) is to run through five communes l municipalities: Barczewo, Purda, Stawiguda, Gietrzwałd, and Olsztyn. In 2013, the bypass was entered in Annex 6 to the Resolution of the Council of Ministers List of certain projects involving the construction of bypasses on national roads, to be implemented in the EU's new financial perspective for 2014-2020. According to plans, it is supposed to be constructed by 2017. In this way, 21 types of land in use (941 plots in total) in parts of 17 geodesic precincts will be land developed. In total, this is an area of 2,469.2 ha of land (counting plots to be bought out), including 2,357 ha in Olsztyn suburban area, which accounts for 1.7% of the total area thereof. The land concerned primarily consists of: arable land (1,065.7 ha), roads (already existing ones: 459.5 ha), pastures (139.8 ha), meadows (116.9 ha), and wasteland (105.7 ha). A percentage of arable land with the highest i.e. third class of soil quality (in the area concerned) will get significantly depleted (above the average value for the above-mentioned communes l municipalities, i.e. 11.8% as compared to 3.0%). 493.2 ha of forests will be cut down. The area to be land developed is large, considering that in 2011, the transport areas in Olsztyn suburban area covered a total of 3,223.3 ha (2.4% of the total area of Olsztyn suburban area).
