TitleNATURE MONUMENTS IN THE SZAMOTUŁY COUNTY (WIELKOPOLSKIE PROVINCE)
AutorWojciech Antkowiak, Anna Materak
Pages5–23
Keywordsnature monument, the Szamotuły country, nature protection
AbstractShow abstract
The paper presents results of the first survey of nature monuments conducted after WWII in seven communes of the Szamotuły county: Duszniki, Kaźmierz, Obrzycko, Ostroróg, Pniewy, Szamotuły and Wronki. A total of 114 nature monuments were inventoried – single trees account for 76.3% of all monuments, while clusters of trees – 20.2%, respectively. A locality of Osmunda regalis, a cluster of Pinus mugo as well as two erratics are also monuments. A total of 384 trees of 25 species were inventoried. In case of single trees considered nature monuments the most numerous group is composed of English oaks (44 trees – 50.6%), while among tree clusters Scots pines predominate (201 trees – 67.7 %). The biggest number of monuments is found in state forests (57.9%) and former manor parks (21.9%). Plaques of NATURE MONUMENT are placed on 54% trees ranked as monuments and 60.9% tree clusters, while only every eighth monument tree cluster bears the appropriate information plaque. Such a plaque was also placed on one erratic. The most impressive tree in the analysed county is a London plane from Pożarów, with a circumference of 7.15 m.

TitleTHE RESOURCES AND CONDITIONS OF OCCURRENCE OF WILD CHERRY PRUNUS AVIUM (ROSACEAE) IN THE WIELKOPOLSKI NATIONAL PARK
AutorLeszek Bednorz, Tomasz Kosiński, Aleksandra Ratajczak
Pages25–30
Keywordswild cherry, ecology, monumental trees, conservation of genetic resources, Wielkopolski National Park
AbstractShow abstract
An inventory of wild cherry trees in the Wielkopolski National Park was made during 2007-2008. Totally, 1098 specimens of the species, in 86 forest compartments were inventoried. There were 28 monumental trees among them; the biggest one of 30 m height and 197 cm of circumference. The habitat conditions of Prunus avium occurrence on its natural sites of the Wielkopolski National Park show a wide range. Wild cherry grows here on soils representing eight types – most often on lessivè and rusty soils. In the typology of forest habitats, the species, occurs most often on habitats of a fresh deciduous forest sites, a fresh mixed deciduous forest sites and a fresh oak-pine forest sites. Also the community context of its sites shows a wide range. Wild cherry trees were recorded in eight forest plant communities – the most frequent in phytocoenoses of oak-hornbeam forests Galio sylvatici-Carpinetum, acidophilous oak forests Calamagrostio arundinaceae-Quercetum and continental pine-oak forests Querco roboris-Pinetum.

TitleTHE ASSESSMENT OF PHLEBIOPSIS GIGANTEA (FR.) JÜLICH PINE STUMPS TREATMENT IN STAND GROWING IN THE FIRST GENERATION ON THE POST ARABLE SOIL
AutorRadosław Cieślak, Piotr Łakomy
Pages31–36
KeywordsPhlebiopsis gigantea, Heterobasidion annosum sensu stricto, stumps treatment, Scots pine
AbstractShow abstract
The aim of his study was the analysis of H. annosum s. s. stand infection and also the stumps colonization by P. gigantea and H. annosum a year after stumps inoculation with biopreparation. The study was conducted in 40-year-old Scots pine stand growing on the post arable soil, where two plots had been established. After commercial thinning the stumps treatment with P. gigantea was done. There were no sporocarps or mycelium of both H. annosum and P. gigantea on investigated stumps. The mycological analysis of wood showed that 64-72% stumps were colonized by P. gigantea and 14-17% by H. annosum. The mycelium of both fungi was also isolated from roots (34-42% colonized by H. annosum and 21-31% by P. gigantea). This study confirmed that stumps treatment in pine stands growing on the post arable soil plays the important role in avoiding the risk of Heterobasidion disease.

TitleDIVERSITY AND ROLE OF INSECTS IN FIR FOREST ECOSYSTEMS IN THE ŚWIĘTOKRZYSKI NATIONAL PARK AND THE ROZTOCZAŃSKI NATIONAL PARK
AutorKazimierz Gądek
Pages37–50
Keywordsinsect fauna, fir, reserves, commercial forests
AbstractShow abstract
The study contains the results of the investigations conducted over a period of many years on the biodiversity of insect fauna of firs in strict and partial reserves of the Świętokrzyski and Roztoczański National Parks. The species structure of individual functional groups of insects was analysed, together with their role in the ecosystem and their influence on the course of natural ecological processes in the environment, depending on the health of the host plant. The degree of similarity was determined for the species composition of insect fauna found in the analysed areas of the parks. A considerable biological and scientific role which has been played for several decades by strict reserves has been stressed. The reserves are indispensable for the creation of appropriate conditions for the development and survival of insect species of great natural value, being rare in the fauna of fir stands at the north-eastern limits of the natural range of this tree species.

TitleTHE EFFECT OF MODIFICATION OF PHENOLIC RESIN WITH ALKYLRESORCINOLS AND H2O2 ON PROPERTIES OF PLYWOOD
AutorDorota Dziurka, Janina Łęcka, Radosław Mirski
Pages67–74
KeywordsPF resin, alkylresorcinols, hydrogen peroxide, plywood
AbstractShow abstract
The study analysed the effect of modification of phenolic resin with alkylresorcinols and H2O2 on properties of softwood and hardwood plywood resinated with such modified PF resins. Conducted tests showed that the application of PF resin modified with alkylresorcinols makes it possible to manufacture plywood with improved properties, especially bond quality, than those of the control plywood pressed under identical conditions. In turn, the introduction of H2O2 both to pure PF resin and resin modified with alkylresorcinols improves properties of plywood as a result of enhanced reactivity and increased chemical adhesion of resin to wood. Moreover, applied PF resin modification methods make it possible to manufacture plywood with very good properties at pressing time reduced by 25%.
