TitleDETERMINATION OF THE ECONOMICAL LOSS DUE TO AN INCREASE OF FORESTS DAMAGE BY HURRICANES
AutorKrzysztof Adamowicz, Piotr Szczypa, Anna Kożuch, Hanna Kwaśna
Pages129–135
Keywordsnatural disasters, the value of losses, forest grow
AbstractShow abstract
This paper reports the value of economical losses in the forests growth resulted from hurricanes in 2012 in the Forest District Trzebciny. Moreover, the problems with estimation of economical losses caused by the hurricanes have been discussed. In the Forest District Trzebciny the value of economical lost resulted from the forest destruction by hurricane reached 887 869.81 PLN. Analysing the obtained results and literature data the authors conclude that determination of the financial losses caused by hurricanes in the forests should include not only the direct expenditure, but also the losses in the growth of forests.

TitleNEW LOCALITY OF RARE SAPROXYLIC BEETLE ENEDREYTES SEPICOLA (FABRICIUS, 1792) (COLEOPTERA: ANTHRIBIDAE) IN POLAND WITH REMARKS ON THE BIOLOGY AND DISTRIBUTION OF THE SPECIES
AutorDamian Bruder, Adrian Łukowski
Pages137–144
KeywordsAnthribidae, Coleoptera, Enedreytes sepicola, geographical distribution, new record
AbstractShow abstract
In Poland, Enedreytes sepicola (Coleoptera: Anthribidae) has been reported from places dispersed almost all over the country and occurred it in small numbers everywhere. In this study we described a new locality found in the Nowa Sól Forest District, Regional Directorate of the State Forests in Zielona Góra (UTM: WT53) and we contributed to the knowledge of the distribution of this rare and locally occurring species of the family Anthribidae. Eight beetles were reared from dead branches of hornbeam (Carpinus betulus). The locality in the Nowa Sól Forest District is one of the outermost west-situated place of occurrence of this species in Poland, and also the first one reported in the forests of the Lubusz Voivodeship. Furthermore, a brief summary has been made of data concerning the biology, ecology and distribution of this saproxylic species, on the basis of national and foreign literature.

TitleAPPLICATION OF CASH FLOW FOR THE ANALYSIS OF COSTS OF FOREST REGENERATION
AutorJakub Glura, Anna Ankudo-Jankowska, Robert Korzeniewicz, Wioleta Wróbel
Pages161–167
Keywordsforest economics, the costs of forest regeneration, cash flow
AbstractShow abstract
The investment in the form of a projected forest is a source of various cash flow: positive (income) and negative (costs). The economic calculation of such an investment implemented at different times requires discounting and rollover of such flows to the common reference points. The work concerns the analysis of the costs of forest regeneration in the Forest Division Borki in 2007–2013. The study included the following types of forest habitats: fresh mixed broadleaved forest (LMśw), fresh broadleaved forest (Lśw) and moist broadleaved forest (Lw). Reforestation works were performed by using complex fellings. The data takes into account the costs associated with labour and material as planting stock in the distinction of specified types of forest habitats. In the work, different variants of interest rate to modify the summary of costs incurred on the analysed surfaces were used. Statistical analysis confirmed these differences in costs depending on account of their value changes over time. The performed statistical analyses did not confirm that the type of habitat affect the diversity of the respondents costs.

TitleTHE EFFECT OF FOREST SITE TYPE ON THINNING TYPE RATIO
AutorRadosław Gostołek, Krzysztof Adamowicz
Pages169–174
Keywordsthinning intensity, forest economy, forest economics
AbstractShow abstract
The paper presents results of studies concerning the effect of environmental conditions expressed in terms of forest site type on thinning intensity. The volume of timber harvested from various site types was compared for types of tending interventions (early thinning for positive selection and late thinning for positive selection). Based on the conducted analyses it was shown that thinning intensity in coniferous forest sites was greater that in broadleaved forest sites. Forest sites also had an effect on the intensity of thinning interventions performed within a given forest site group (broadleaved vs. coniferous forest sites). In broadleaved forest sites the greatest volume of timber was harvested at the fresh mixed forest site (BMś – 27.05 m3/ha), while it was lowest at the fresh coniferous forest site (Bśw – 23.66 m3/ha). In broadleaved forest sites the greatest timber volume was harvested in the moist mixed broadleaved forest (LMw – 20.07 m3/ha) and it was smallest in the fresh broadleaved forest site (Lśw – 9.65 m3/ha). The greatest thinning type ratio in broadleaved forest sites was lower than the lowest thinning intensity in coniferous forest sites. Analysis of the type of conducted silvicultural measures showed that a greater thinning type ratio is observed at late thinning for positive selection. Only in the BMw site a greater volume was harvested during early thinning for positive selection than it was at late thinning for positive selection.

TitleLEGAL CONDITIONS OF FOREST EDUCATION IN POLAND
AutorMonika Starosta-Grala, Anna Ankudo-Jankowska
Pages175–183
Keywordseducation of ecology, forest education, acts, state documents, State Forests
AbstractShow abstract
Effective environmental education, including the forest education, leads to the development of knowledge about the state of the environment, the level of awareness and the environmental attitudes of society. This activity covers different fields, such as: nature conservation, environment, education, and politics taking into account different social groups, organizations and institutions. This paper presents the most important national legislation and state documents in relation to the environmental education. Their relationships and evaluation in the context of a positive impact on the ecological awareness of society, including the activities of the State Forests in this area are indicated. The process of creating a regulatory system in the field of environmental education is a long-term process that requires continuous improvement of law and system solutions. In the field of education, it should aim to develop a common platform for cooperation between educational bodies and forest educators. The result of this cooperation should be developing common standards and core curricula for various levels of education.

Pages189–195
Keywordsroe deer, Capreolus capreolus, antlers, value of trophy
AbstractShow abstract
The aim of the study was to examine individual quality of roe deer hunted in Poland in 1876–2005 and check the impact of the antlers height, their weight and volume on the final valuation. In the study data on the antlers of roe deer summarized in the “Catalogue of hunting trophies 2005” (Dziedzic, 2005) were used. In total of the registry there were 1,152 trophies with gold medal that ranged from 130–226.68 points CIC. The individual quality of roe deer in Poland is very high, and the amount of gold antlers bucks was increasing steadily up to 2005. Only in the last five years of the period ie. in 1999–2005 the number of trophies was 47. Weight and volume had the biggest impact on the total number of points in the measurement of the medal antlers. On average it accounted for respectively 34.7% and 47.3% of their total points.
