Abstract
The paper summarises results of studies on reproductive potential of the pikeperch in the Polish part of the Vistula Lagoon. The length at which 50% of the females reach sexual maturity was determined as 41.8 cm l.t. The number of females present within 1989-2001 in the exploited population of the Vistula Lagoon pikeperch was estimated, as was the number of eggs laid each year. The estimated number of eggs laid during a year was found to range from 69 to 114 billion, the 9-yr annual average amounting to 52 billion. The highest numbers of eggs were laid by the Vistula Lagoon pikeperch females in 1989-1992. A high number of pikeperch egg found in a calendar year was not tantamount to the appearance of a numerous offspring. It was in short periods of time only that the two variables showed similar trends.
