Abstract
The study presents the description of the loss of stability in elastic states of axially compressed cylindrical shell. The author analysed the differential equation of the deflection curve and its slope, the critical stress, the shell stresses and strains of very slender tubes in elastic states under conditions of flat cross-sections and little slopes of the deflection curve. The obtained theoretical results of critical stresses were related to slenderness ratio and to cross-section area of the cylindrical shells. The obtained theoretical results of stresses and strains were presented on graphs for an example of the tube made of steel.
